Rishi Sunak has called for unity in the face of a deep economic “fix” after winning the race to be the next prime minister of Great Britain.
His rival, Penny Mor Ashdown, failed to secure sufficient support from MPs, the BBC reports.
In his first speech, Sunak said the union of his party and the United Kingdom would be his top “priority”.
Otherwise Sunak will become the first British prime minister of the United Kingdom and the youngest for more than 200 years.
Sunak, 42-year-old, is expected to take office Tuesday after being formally appointed by the King.
He replaces Liz Truss, following her resignation.
