At least 13 people have died after a Russian combat aircraft SU-34 crashed into a residential building in the western city of Yeysk during a training flight Monday, according to state media and Russian authorities.
The incident was due to the burning of one of the engines, state news agency RIA Novosti reported, which quoted Russia's Defence Ministry.
“According to the pilot report, due to the crash of the plane was the lighting of one of the engines during takeoff. At the site of the SU-34 crash in the courtyard of one of the residential neighbourhoods, the fuel from the plane was lit”, the ministry said in a statement to RIA.
RIA reported that 13 troops, including those of three children, have been found since Tuesday morning, according to the Emergency Situations Ministry. Previous state media reports said at least 25 people were injured.
Yeysk is a port city on the coast of the Azov Sea and is divided by occupied Russian territory in southern Ukraine by a narrow stretch of the sea.
