The burning sun in Australia during the Australian Open tournament. Over 33 degrees. There's no room to cool in the shade.
But Meshkatzahra Saffin can't stop the heat and let it stop. The 17-year-old from Iran is struggling to fulfill the dream. She wants to become a professional tennis player.
In the second circle of Australia's sumo Open for junitors, Safi was put in the field with his headscarves in time and long sleeves.
I've been used to playing with this outfit since I was nine years old. I'm gonna keep doing this. It's part of me”, she explains. In Iran, women are forced to wear headscarves in public.
Saffy lost his match against Belgian Sophie Costoulas in two sets. But she had already written the story a few days earlier.
She became the first Iranian to win a match in a major tennis tournament, defeating Australian Anja Nayar 6:4, 6:3 in the first circle. She is also the first tennis player to serve wearing a headscarf on such a tour.
