“Violence against women continues to remain one of the least punishable forms of violence. A few days ago, news was made public that police official R. For about six months, a minor girl in Gjilan had been sexually assaulted by a woman, and today the Court of Appeals has canceled the life sentence for Noah Mavrovqan, who killed his wife with metal rod in July 2020 in the village of Beryvodica Komun village of Kamenica. In both cases, such as in many other cases of violence against women in Kosovo, institutions that are tasked with protecting the lives of citizens are failing to do so, even risking it directly. We remember that since 2019, domestic violence has been defined as a criminal offense in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, thanks to the efforts of several women's organisations. However, as much action has been taken to criminalise domestic violence, justice institutions are still reluctant to impose merit sentences for women's murderers and rapists. Rather, following this culture of impunity, institutions are promoting continued violence, rape and murder of women”, the RGK's response reported.
RGK has expressed deep indignation over these two cases, pledging once to raise our voices to seek justice, as with any other woman being violated and killed.
A trip to the media communique says it will not stop until violence against women is treated only as daily news or as private matters.
Director for murdered women! Justice for each woman killed and violated” is said in the communique.
