Biden: In late May, US will have vaccines for all adults

The announcement comes as the White House continues efforts to accelerate the production of the vaccine by a single dose of Johnson & Johnson company. President Biden's administration is also trying to speed up the country's plans to reach “the population's community” and restore normality after the pandemic.

Speaking from the White House, President Biden said he learned when he took office that Johnson & Johnson “was behind in its production and distribution” of the vaccine and had produced only 3.9 million doses before obtaining authorisation for the urgent use of its vaccine on Saturday. The company has promised to produce 100m doses by the end of June.

President Biden said his team “has worked hard to accelerate this effort. ”

 

 

Assistance from Merck company is expected to help the J&J company meet its production commitments and expand supply further, but the administration did not immediately provide further details about it.

The White House said the Merck company would offer its two production plants for the effort. One would produce the vaccine, and the other would deal with the introduction of the vaccine into the bottle and ensuring strict quality checks. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the administration of President Biden was using its Defence Production Act competencies to help Merck make the difference, enabling the fastest production of the vaccine created by its rival Johnson & Johnson. / VOA/
