The draft law proposed by Albanian parties for citizenship of those born in northern Macedonia, but have not yet benefited, has been rejected by the Macedonian ruling LSDM and opposition party V MRO-DPMNE.
Ziadin Sela, head of the Alliance for Albanians, says that if the law is not adopted in Parliament then it will retaliate with the same currency by blocking the adoption of any law.
According to the Alliance for Albanians and Alternatives analysis, it is about thousands of citizens without citizenship, most of them Albanians.
He adds that without citizenship, citizens cannot receive health services, perform wreaths, or even become part of the labour market.
Sela says that the Macedonian political message is that the townman will feel rejected by the state” and that attitude is done against Albanians who are autochtons.
“Being without citizenship is not that you lack only one document but it's much bigger than that. The idea to collectively suppress Albanians and the idea to print individually on the basic right they are entitled to. The changes we propose do not tend. We will not allow the cross-ex1> of Albanians, Sela told Euronews.al.
The head of the Alliance for Albanians says Albania's concern and indifference in this situation, where he stressed it cannot remain silent.
What worries me is what the role of that decades-old Albanian party is. Within the night, they have received citizenship for the Macedonian minority of Pustec, which is with presence and DUI, while Albanians are autochtons and have been before Macedonia was an independent state, are without citizenship. What worries me is the silence of my country, which in all this situation should not stand in this process. It's not a problem today, but it's been going on for 30 years.
