The State Lawyer will be in the hands of a man arrested for smuggling legends, along with six officials and former state officials, in 2008.
That is because Justice Minister Albulen Haxhiu appointed Arsim Zuka, the former Kosovo Customs official, to the post of State Attorney General.
Zuka replaces Sami Istrefi, whose general state lawyer has expired on Tuesday. Minister Haxhiu's decision comes into force from Wednesday 29 December.
Edsim Zuka, who served as a lawyer under the State Bar Agency, has previously held office within the customs institution. He served as customs official for Intelligence at the Elez Khan Customs Point, connecting Kosovo with northern Macedonia.
On September 10th, 2008, the nominated State Lawyer had fallen into the bonds of the Kosovo Police along with six former customs officers.
On charges of misuse of official office, organised crime and several other criminal acts, police had arrested seven customs officers and former customs officers, the Express newspaper reported on September 11th, 2008. Among them was Edsim Zuka.
Part of the group arrested was Bujar Shatri, deputy director of Customs.
All of those arrested were officials or former customs officials, where other than one who worked at the border checkpoint at Pristina Airport, the others were people who worked at the Eleez Khan customs station.
In addition to Bujar Schhart, on various charges but dealing with misuse of official office, Lulzim Syla, chief of switching to Elez's customs station, Bekim Gashi and Arlind Sharani, both customs officers in Han, Elez, have been arrested.
According to Gazeta Express reporting, those arrested were suspected of smuggling an amount of viral tablets.

Criminal charges against the seven detainees were sent to Pristina District Pristina Prosecutor.
There is no public record of the epilogue investigation.
Last year, Edsim Zuka's name, as part of the State Lawyer, was mentioned in connection with the state's legal representation in the contest won at the Vienna Court.
Former Prime Minister Selim Selimi, at a media conference, had presented the contest represented by attorney Arsim Zuka as a success of the State Lawyer.
The “given that the State Lawyership also represents court disputes in the International Court, which we have the concrete case of the Vienna Court, represented by Lawyer Education Zuka, the case won at a monetary value of 1m euros”, Selimi said.
