Scientists have discovered a 1306 foot millipede, mostly from every known animal, and say it is a miracle “of evolution”. Some of them were found almost 60m underground in the Goldfields-Esperence region of Western Australia, where miners dug for gold and lithium.

The creature has no eyes, is pale, about 100 feet [95 mm] long, and less than a millimeter wide. He uses his touch and smell to feel his environment and lives in total darkness in an underground habitat of iron and volcanic rocks, writes Skynews, broadcast Klankosova.tv.

Two women studied by biologists were found to be more alive than their male counterparts, one with 1306 feet, the other with 998. A couple of men had 818 and 778 feet yet a huge increase in regular millipedes, which generally have between 100 and 200.

The previous record was established by a creature found in California that had 750 feet. The newly discovered creature is called Eumilipes Persephone, meaning “the very real legs” and refers to Persephone, the queen of the world of crime in ancient Greek mythology.

In my opinion this is an amazing animal. A marvel of evolution. It represents the most extreme extension found to this day on the millipedes, the first animals to conquer the earth. And this species in particular managed to adapt to living tens of meters deep on earth, in a dry and rough landscape where it is very difficult to find any millipede that survives on the surface, said Bruno Busatto, lead biologist at Bennelongia Environmental Consultants in Perth

The millipedes, which are tied to centipeds, insects, and crustaceans, appeared for the first time over 400 million years ago. Today, some 13,000 species are known to feed on rotten vegetation and mushrooms.
