The military carrier with air force cadres crashed and exploded in flames Friday near a highway in northeastern Ukraine.
The Ukrainian State Emergency Service said there were 27 people on board, seven crew members and 20 students. Of them, only one cadet managed to survive.
“Day, due to a terrible tragedy, Ukraine lost 26 of its worthy sons. I insist that the causes of this plane crash be clarified immediately and that the investigation is objective and impartial”, Zelenskiy wrote on Facebook.
He has announced Saturday a day of mourning, writes Reuters.
Military jet “Antonov An-26” crashed while trying to land during a training, the Ukraine Defence Ministry said, suggesting that the boxes with flight data were found.
The state authorities have suggested that they have investigated the four possible causes of the crash: the mechanical failure of the aircraft, the reaction and inadequate performance of the crew, the weak performance by the flight controllers and inadequate maintenance, broadcasts KOHA.
Ukrainian State Security Service has suggested that the plane crashed five minutes before the crew commander called for a landing, as the two - engined aircraft's left engine did not work.
“According to preliminary information, the Cadets did not directly control the plane all flights were conducted by the crew commander,”, the State Security Service said in a statement Saturday.
