But, on the other hand, opponents predicted that if free movement is banned there will be a recession of the economy and many Swiss citizens will have to live and work in other European countries. The justice minister stated that this could create a more difficult situation than Brex.
However, Swiss citizens rejected the initiative. The text presented in the referendum was rejected by most cantons.
