Washington's agreement between Kosovo and Serbia on normalising economic relations is seen as paving the way for reaching a peaceful agreement between the two countries.
This has prompted the deputy of the Christian Democrat Party in Sweden, Magnus Jacobsson, to take the initiative in nominating US, Kosovo and Serbia for the Nobel Peace Prize.
He has today handed the nomination to the Norwegian Academy of Sciences, which shares the Nobel Prizes.
Therefore, I want to nominated the United States government, the Government of Kosovo and the Government of Serbia for the Nobel Peace Prize, as through this agreement the elimination of the risk for new conflicts in the Balkans and has access to mutual peace and recognition”, the document says.
This is the complete content of the document:
“Nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize
In the late 1990s, Europe was hit by a bloody war in which different parts of the former Yugoslavia were fighting each other on ethnic and religious grounds. After the war ended, it has been difficult to find a way that would lead to reconciliation, which is seen in relations between Kosovo and Serbia”.
The historical injustices and deep grief of individuals have made it difficult to move from a cold peace to a warm peace of recognition and functioning relationships.
In recent years, there have been situations where we follow developments in the Balkans are worried there might be new conflicts. Therefore, it is very important to see that President Donald Trump and his administration, along with the Government of Kosovo and the Government of Serbia, have advanced in negotiations on normalising economic relations”.
“Trade and communication are some of the most important pillars to switch from a cool peace to a warm peace. This is a very important step for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
“If the signed agreement functions as aimed, trade and open personal relations would pave the way for a bilateral peace agreement in which Serbia can recognise Kosovo, with what an end to this long conflict”.
I therefore want to nominated the United States Government, the Government of Kosovo and the Government of Serbia for the Nobel Peace Prize, as through this agreement the elimination of the risk for new conflicts in the Balkans and has access to mutual peace and recognition”, the nomination document says.
Magnus Jacobsson”
