Foreign trade under the influence of pandemic falls imports for 15.6 percent in August

Foreign trade has suffered significant shocks as a result of the David-19 pandemic. According to the Kosovo Statistics Agency, import for August has suffered a drop -15.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. However, this decline is smaller than April, when the decline was 34.4 for [...]
Unlike import, however, exports have increased by 7.6 percent. This has affected the commercial deficit to be lower by -18 percent in August, in proportion to the same period in 2019. The deficit was 228.9m euros, while last year it was 279.9m euros.
During August, goods worth 263.3m euros were imported, while 34.3m euros were exported.
The goods that enter Kosovo mainly come from European Union countries. Of these countries during August, about 117.5m euros, or 44.7 percent of total imports, were imported. However, this figure represents a decline in imports from these countries to -26.6 percent compared to the same period last year. The highest turnout imports were from Germany at 13.6 percent, Italy at 5.6 percent, Slovenia at 3.2 percent, Greece at 3.1 percent, and so on.
Imports from CEFTA countries during August amounted to 52.3m euros, or 19.9 per cent of total imports, with a 10.9 per cent increase. Countries with greater import participation were Albania by 6 percent, Serbia is also 6 percent, and northern Macedonia was 5.8 percent.
Kosovo has also imported from other countries of the world. Only from its two trade partners, Turkey and China, it imported goods worth 93.3m euros, or 35.5 per cent of total imports. From Turkey it has imported 13.2 percent of this product, while from China it imported 10.6 percent.
