After two years of absence, the governments of two Albanian states in Shkodra will gather in the third week of September. Kosovo and Albania are expected to sign several joint agreements. And our country can benefit greatly from three of them if it is applied in practice. Kosovo Customs in Durres, hydropower plant on Albanian territory and railway line are being assessed as useful for the two Albanian-speaking countries.
Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Albulen Balaj-Halimaj tells Kosovo that the agreements to be signed will be in the interest of both sides.
“There will be agreements which are in the interest of both sides. Those that are probably less giant than the others are Kosovo Customs, the railway line and is the hydropower plant thought to be built in Albania, which will be functional for Kosovo ... in addition to that, there will be other agreements, the ministries have already begun to hand over draft agreements”, she says.
Concrete implementation of these agreements is demanding economic connoisseurs in Kosovo.
Berat Rukiqi from the Kosovo Economic Oda says these joint projects will facilitate the circulation of citizens, goods and increase business profits.
He also stresses that energy resources should be combined between the two countries.
If there is a discussion, not with political burden, but technical level and content level, we can lead to some of the old ideas that have been and that are necessary. Railways that would raise the value of the Durres Port, the current circulation in road transport, is not worth much more. But with railway transport, it would certainly be an added value to both countries' economy. At the same time as the hydro power plant, we need to combine energy resources to increase what is known as spare in the system that helps sustain supply stability. This direction I think you should increase the possibility Albania invest in thermal power plant Kosovo, or the two governments to invest in a thermal power plant, then resources were combined, especially when we have this power grid in operation”, he said.
Meanwhile, economics professor Muhamet Sadiku estimates empowering Albania-Kosovo energy connections is very important.
“Albania is entirely from water, while Kosovo is from coal, if any exchange is required between Kosovo and Albania to see how rational that is. But what is known is that empowering Albania-Kosovo energy connection is very important”, he says.
Kosovo and Albania both in the past have held joint meetings where dozens of agreements have been signed, despite this some of them have not found concrete implementation in both countries.
