Economic co-operation with Serbia dims Kosovo citizenship, political issues obstacles to normalisation

Experts are considering continuing an economic dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia necessary. They are even praising that economic co-operation cannot diminish Kosovo's citizenship.

Even though there are many agreements between the two countries, implementation is emerging, according to them.

Former head of the Kosovo Economic Ode (OEK), Safet Gerjaliu, for Online Economy, has said there is no problem with the agreements, but in implementing them.

“We have to consider that when we enter into the dialogue, there are always those that we cannot get what we are looking for, but however that by believing that in the EU policy, especially the US, I believe that Kosovo should believe in these two superpowers as we believe that 20 years, and Kosovo in no case should stop dialogue and regional, economic co-operation, and no matter with any state”.

He estimates that, in time, nationalism can be reduced to the level of peoples on the part of both countries.

However, according to him, Kosovo without a real dialogue cannot provide a seat at the UN.

I appreciate that perhaps over time the level of nationalism at the level of peoples on both Serbia and Kosovo level because as a result of the great nationalist influence in Serbia, and Serbian politics, even though they are trying to reflect that Kosovo is not always ours they are afraid of any kind of gun at the level of their own”.

“Without a real dialogue Kosovo cannot provide a seat at the UN, because since you have no seat you cannot raise issues against the state of Serbia”.

Kosovo and Serbia have launched a new phase of dialogue, which has been confirmed as the end of a process initiated since 2011.

Part of the negotiations is being announced that it's also economic as well, but that so far it is not clear what the two delegations will discuss.
