Yerenelli's statements: America abandons Kosovo in dialogue following Thaci's withdrawal

Special Representative of the United States for Kosovo Dialogue- Serbia's Richard Green has welcomed the European Union's recent initiatives for the return of Pristina and Belgrade to the negotiating table.

Green has declared that Europe's initiative has full US support and that it is happy to see Europeans hosting the Paris Videos on July 10th and the summit between Kosovo and Serbia on 12 July in Brussels.

But this position of the American president's special envoy, from the connoisseur of political and diplomatic issues in the country, is being described as a signal of the United States' withdrawal from the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.

Analyst Shkodran Ramadani has told Periscope that Grenelli's statement may be meant as a US approval for the EU to take over the dialogue issue again. Analyst says this new American stance on this issue has come after the release of the Special Court's indictment proposal to President Thaci.

I think the U.S. with Thaci are closer, so I think there's going to be an attraction. There seems to be better co-ordination between the US and the EU after two years of tension over the question of dialogue. More than withdrawal, this more likes me as a US approval for the EU to direct dialogue”, Ramadani said.

However, he is sceptical whether dialogue in any direction will succeed without the involvement of President Thaci.

“Mbet to see how successful this meeting will be, if still Kosovo does not receive visa liberalisation and if there is no clear platform from France and Germany, then dialogue can move towards Washington's orbit. But unlike Ramadani, analyst Ramush Tahiri thinks. According to him, Richard Green's reaction should be seen as positive and that dialogue is developing in two directions. According to Tahiri, there has never been any competition between the US and the EU for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, saying it is foreign service propaganda.

“Grenelli has even earlier supported the EU's involvement in dialogue, but foreign services that provide propaganda say there are divisions among them about dialogue”, Tahiri has stressed further.

Analyst has suggested that besides the leaders of Kosovo institutions, no one else can sign or ratify the agreement with Serbia. This was in response to Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, who had declared that with Europeans talks about Kosovo. /Periscopi/
