The crimes were allegedly committed in the village of Rudica, the municipality of Kline, has confirmed to Radio Free Europe, the Prosecution in Belgrade.

Along with the indictment is the request for extended detention of defendant N. M, which has been arrested at the Merdare border crossing on 3 January and has since been in custody. War crimes prosecutor in Serbia Vasillje Seratiq has confirmed to Radio Free Europe on January 9th that Kosovo citizens Nezir Mehmetaj had been assigned 30-day detention, under war crimes allegations in the village of Rudica.

In a written reply by the Belgrade Prosecutor given to Radio Free Europe, there is no mention of the details of which crime is being discussed and what is specifically charged with Mehmetaj.

Mehmetaj's lawyer, Sead Spahovic, has told Radio Free Europe that Mehmetaj is being accused of acts committed after June 1999, when the war was over and that the charges against him could not be linked to war crimes.

He has added that there is no evidence in the prosecution's case of Mehmetaj that his client has been involved in any act that constitutes war crimes.

After Neziri Mehmetaj's ban by Serbian authorities, official Pristina had sought his immediate release.
