Montenegro adopts law allowing same sex marriages

Today Montenegrin Parliament deputies passed the law allowing the marriage of same-sex people. Support of 41 deputies was needed for the adoption of this bill, until 42 of them voted in favour, with the law case passed. Support of 41 deputies was needed for the adoption of this bill, until 42 of them voted in favour, with the law case passed.
The law was supported by DPS deputies DS, SDP, Liberal Party MP Andrija Poovic and MP DEMOS Nedjeljko Rudovic.
And the LGBTIA Progress Forum said this is a historic step in the Battle for Equality, in the fight for human rights and LGBTI community people in Montenegro.
This is a major step towards Montenegrin society, in the special joy of the entire LGBTI community. As an organisation that has protected for years the legal recognition of same-sex communities and as active participants in the working group that created this law, we are very happy for this long-awaited end”, say representatives of the LGBTI community in Montenegro.
What remains crucial now ? The implementation of this law in practice is the next major step in the process of protecting human rights of LGBTI “, the statement said.
Bojana Jokicić from LGBT said that even though today's vote is excellent for Montenegro. She also said that “I want to briefly look at events that have shaken our society in recent weeks. As an activist and citizen, I hope this law applies also to practice”.
