National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Disease Director Anthony Fauci said he expects the U.S. to have a vaccine against the Coronavirus by the end of this year.

“I feel good at the projected” schedule, Fauci told Reuters news agency.

His comments follow the promising early phase data of testing a vaccine by the American biotechnic company Moderna.

The vaccine, developed by scientists at the institute leading Fauci, is expected to enter the final phase of testing at the end of this month.

Fauci said Moderna's results are particularly promising, because the vaccine appears to offer the kind of protection seen in a natural infection.

One of the things you hope for is that your vaccine has an answer that can be compared to a natural infection, because, theoretically, the best vaccine you can ever create is the natural infection”, Fauci said.

Worldwide, dozens of vaccines COVIED-19, the disease causing the coronavirus, is at different stages of testing.

Fauci said he's not worried about the idea that China can provide the vaccine first.

There won't be much faster than us. This is safe”, Fauci said.

Coronavius, believed to have originated in China, has affected over 13.5 million people worldwide.

Of them, over 5842,000 have died and over 7.5 million have recovered.
