About 800 jobs have been lost as a cause of pandemic in the municipality of Gjilan. And 23 percent decline in the number of workers in large and medium - size businesses, where small businesses have been hit the most during this time. So says the report on damages caused in the Gjilan municipality economy sector. These losses include the period of dealing with the global pandemic, David-19.
Economic Development Director in Gjilan Valbona Tahiri has said the measures undertaken by the Government of Kosovo in March this year, for limiting the movement of citizens, cutting off the education process in schools and universities, cutting off the destructive part of business activities have stabilised economic development in the municipality of Gjilan.
“Pandemia has affected the loss of 788 jobs. We have a 23% drop in the total number of workers at the surveyed companies, mainly big and medium-sized businesses. The same situation has been declared by small businesses. Individual businesses, however, have marked growth. 54 workers have claimed that 46% of businesses have declared a 90-100% drop in sales rates, and only 1% of the surveyed businesses have claimed the sales level has been the same”, it noted.
In this research, 304 businesses have been surveyed, where Tahiri has reported that 69% of the businesses participating in research develop business in the city, 27% in villages, and 4% of them have branches outside the municipality's territory. Businesses surveyed by the type are 42 % individual businesses, 38 % companies with limited responsibilities, 19 % farmers, while 1 % share society.
According to her, the overwhelming majority of businesses (80%) have claimed that the pandemic has affected falling demand for services/products, and only 2% and businesses have declared low influence. 66% of businesses have scored a lack of liquidity, while 48% have declared obstacles to supply during the pandemic.
“Hulum finds that pandemic risks small businesses at most. Only 8% of businesses think they can deal with the pandemic. 84% of businesses have claimed they cannot afford the situation with the pandemic and maximum period that business can operate with positive or without losses is 3 to 6 months, while 16% can operate from 3 to one year. Hopeful is the fact that only 50% of businesses will not fire workers from”, Tahiri has added.
According to mayor Lutfi Haziri, the health of the economy in Gjilan is a top priority. He stressed that the findings in this research are frightening.
The private economy is one of the focuses that we've researched, and today we have these findings that show a bad reality and they're scary if they don't interfere with measures to prevent the growth of damage in the economy sector, agriculture. Meanwhile, public companies we are continuing with support surgery, not allowing secondary problems. Because we spent part of the conference with the self-transporters protest that I support their demands, I understand. But we can't bankrupt the company until we find the means to subsidize the transporter”, Haziri added.
Among other things, Haziri said ratification of financial agreements, reviewing the budget on second reading, and steps the municipality will take are measures affecting rehabilitation and preservation of economic health.
While Agriculture Director Ramiz Ramadani said that the total harm of farmers is over 130 thousand euros in that sector alone, while the 25 percent damage is a very low value that can even completely destroy this agricultural field.
