The two new infections are both women from the same family that arrived in New Zealand from Great Britain through Australia,
Women were allowed on the grounds of compassion to leave their isolation at a hotel in Auckland and travel to Wellington through private vehicles to visit a loved one who has died, said Health Director General Dr Ashley Bloomfield at a conference.
Local public health personnel are testing and isolated another family member who may be at risk of exposure, and they are tracing possible contacts including people on the same flight from Brisbane and those at the same institution of isolation.
Last week, New Zealand lifted almost all the internal restrictions of the Coronavirus, although strict regulations for entry into the country remain in force.
Recent infections bring the total number of confirmed cases in New Zealand to 1,156, CNN reports.
