Kosovo Police General Director Rashit Qalaj has not commented on recent statements about his dismissal from this position.

Qalaj has said Kosovo Police are working with all existing capacities and that the assessment of his work belongs to the hierarchy and is regulated by law.

Kosovo Police will do our job as well as possible, and I think that we have achieved it together with my management group and also with all the commanders of the station and the other superiors, always thanking the police and police who have engaged and made a huge contribution to have the situation under control as regards the pandemic. The matter of assessing the police director's work is a matter of regulated hierarchy. I don't want to comment on those statements, but I have to make sure that the organisation is working in the best way possible with those capacities we have”, Qalaj said.

Asked if he would arrest MP Behgjet Pacolli if he would be asked by Interior Minister Jalal Svechla's duty manager, he has said police act on the law and in no other way.

“I am the director of police and the director of the Police and the Kosovo Police act on the basis of the Police Law. I don't want a moment to comment on statements of the political spectrum, no matter who they are and which position they come from. But Kosovo police operate only on the basis of the law and in no other way”, Qalaj told Online Economy.

He has said that politics has not been involved in police duties and that there is very good co-operation with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Government.

“We as the Kosovo Police have very good co-operation with all of the country's institutions, but this time it has been very good co-operation since the nature of the disease has been such, especially with the MSH and IKSP, but also with the hospital centre. We're happy with excellent cooperation. We also had excellent co-operation with all other institutions The Authority of Competition, Tax Administration, then KSF. I can say that we have had very good co-operation with MPB and Government and I can say that at any moment nobody has tried to get involved in the affairs of the Kosovo Police, he added.

In this interview for Online Economics, she talked about managing Coronavirus's pandemic situation by police.

“Pandemia is still a challenge. The impression is that the population is no longer endangered. I think it's not a fact but we need to be careful as on the first day the pandemic started. Kosovo police have been committed to all the capacities they have with the level of management at all levels yesterday I consider that the Kosovo Police have managed very well to manage the situation, always thanks to the people of Kosovo who have been very disciplined and who have consistently respected the decisions of the government, OVR calls and calls from institutions that fewer people are infected”, Qalaj said.

He said the pandemic has caught them unprepared in logistics.

“Normically that, like all other institutions in the country, the region, but even this world has initially caught us unprepared in logistics. But with the support of MSh with numerous donations, Kosovo Police are now well prepared in terms of logistics and we have a new experience, until this virus disappears from our country” he said.

Qala: We've had 11 police officers infected, four men healed and seven others are being treated.

Director Qalaj has indicated that 11 Kosovo Police members, four of whom have recovered and another 7 are in the process of recovery, have been affected.

“We have been committed to full capacity by excluding a number of colleagues who are sick of serious diseases and also who have been relieved of duty and a number of colleagues who have had mild diseases. We've also relieved our civilian staff members. During these contacts, we've fortunately had a very small number of infected colleagues, the total number has been 11, four have recovered and seven are in the process of recovery. While we've had a large number of our colleagues who've been forced to suicide, who have been in training abroad. Most of them for contact scans have been forced to defend themselves, colleague and family to enter the success”, he added.

During pandemic, 2 187 persons have been banned for failing to implement the measures

He has also spoken of violators of the decision about limiting movement. According to him during this time for failing to follow the rules, 2,000 and 187 persons have been detained.

“Currently large-scale measures by the MS and restrictions on movement are respected by the Kosovo population. I thank them again for helping us with institutions. I believe they've mostly helped themselves and their families. We are very lucky that despite the great commitment of institutions of all levels, we are fortunate that the number of infected people is controlled even though we would not want to have anyone infected, but given the country's economy, health and security levels, we have had the situation under control. Unfortunately, though, there have been times when they did not respect these measures. We have had cases of gambling or drinking at night, and we know that hotel establishments have been banned. We have been forced to take measures and I can say that the number of cases at the level of the country has been 1,282 cases, including 2 187 persons”, he said.

Of them, according to the director, detained for 48 hours were 198, while 989 went into regular procedure.

We've been very well co-operating, especially with nymical inspectors since they're obliged under the law to prevent the spread of infectious diseases from dealing with penal cases. But in such cases when we've encountered citizens who were in different locals and locals at MS command they've been banned from working we've had to accompany them to police stations and we've always been called to the Law on Influencing Disease Prevention and yet they've been individuals, while in all, the population has been well respected (4)x1>, Qalaj told EO.
