That figure sounds quite high, but according to data published by Our World in Dataão, the U.S. had conducted 16.3 tests per 1,000 people, listing 30.6 tests per 1,000 people behind Italy.
President Donald Trump said that soon the United States will run 5 million tests a day. However, his prediction seems optimistic. Reports say the US is currently testing about 200,000 people per day.
The approach of testing varies from country to country, so it's still not clear who is classified to test.
