The party “Law and Justice”, which is currently in power, has said the elections should be held despite the increase in the number of victims from the Coronavirus. This party proposed that elections be held via mail, writes “Reuters”, Report Express broadcast.
The ruling party is being criticised for sacrificing public health only to secure a new mandate to the current president, Andreze Duda, who is its supporter. According to polls, he is expected to win these elections.
The Assembly had initially voted to block this plan after a broad conservative alliance supporting nationalists split. However, the ruling party secured most of the votes Monday. The bill was backed by 230 deputies, 226 opposed and two abstained.
Poland has so far recorded 4,413 cases of coronary and 107 deaths. Experts expect the pandemic to peak in May or June. Presidential elections are scheduled for May 10th.
