A new study shows that the experimental antiviral drug of the Giled Sciences Inc company, remdesivitri, prevented coronary progress in monkeys, the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) announced on Friday.
The animals that were treated with remdesivivir really showed no difficulty in breathing like other animals. We don't see much damage in their lungs. So the drug clearly had a very positive effect on the” disease, Dr. Emmie de Wit, chief of the Medieval Patogenesis in NIAID, in an interview with Reuters news agency on Sunday.
The study included twelve rezu monkeys, with half of them taking the remdesivir drug, and the other half received placebo, the institute's statement said.
After following instructions for doses used for patients treating COVID-19, scientists noted that the virus's “sasis found in the lungs was evidently the lowest” in the treated monkeys.
The monkeys who received remdesivivirals at the early stage of their treatment were able to heal fully, said Mrs. de Wit, adding that future evidence will likely focus on the effectiveness of this antiviral drug when used in the most serious cases of coronary.
Interested in Gilad Company medicine in the midst of the ongoing body of Coronervirus has been high. Magazine “The England Journal of Medicine” last week released an analysis showing that two thirds of a small group of seriously ill COVIDD-19 saw their situation improve after treatment.
Drug manufacturers worldwide are competing to develop a treatment or a vaccine for the disease.
Earlier this month, the National Institute of Health (NIH) said it would start testing the anti-malarie hydroxyclelorin drug as treatment of the disease. Decades of drug use, which has been approved by President Donald Trump as a possible weapon against COVID-19, grew up in the United States.
It's very understandable that people now hope in treatment like hydroxycloria. But as scientists, we would like to see data showing that they are effective”, Dr. de Wit.
Initial enthusiasm for specific antiviral therapies, which are not supported by broad scientific evidence, has hampered the treatment of viruses since the SARS outbreak in the early 2000s. Because different experimental treatments started at the same time, we still don't know which drugs worked for SARS.
While acknowledging the urgency of the coronary situation, Dr. de Wit believes the scientific community is committed to doing things differently this time around.
We're really trying to study specific treatments in specific clinical trials so that we can know for sure whether it works. And if it doesn't work, then we can just put it aside and keep looking for what's going to work,” she said.
There are still no approved cures for COVID-19, this highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the Coronavirus, which is estimated to have already infected over 2 million people worldwide. /voa
