The preliminary results of the investigation by Chinese researchers were published in the magazine Émeraging Infectious Diseases, of the American Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
They add a growing debate about how the disease is transmitted, with scientists themselves warning that the small amounts of the virus they found at this distance are not necessarily infectious.
Researchers, led by a team at the Military Medical Sciences Academy in Beijing, tested samples on surface and air from an intensive care unit and a general department COVID-19 at Huostenshan Hospital in Wuhan, on 24 patients during February 19th- 2nd, broadcasts Kosovas.
They found that the virus was mostly concentrated on floors, <x0 seed due to gravity and air flow, causing most of the virus's points to swim on earth”.
High levels were also found on surfaces often affected by computers, garbage containers, beds, and door gloves.
“The ICU tested positive. Therefore, shoes can function as a transporter,” writes the team.
The team also found that the aerosols in charge of the virus were concentrated mainly nearby and on the lower course of patients at up to four meters.
Fortunately, no hospital staff member was infected, “showing that adequate precautions could effectively prevent the” infection.
Our “findings suggest that home isolation of people with COVID-19 suspected may not be a good control strategy” given environmental pollution levels”, the authors of the study write.
The World Health Organization has thus far minimized the risk. US health authorities have adopted a more cautious line and have urged people to cover their faces while outside if the virus can be transmitted through normal breathing and speech.
