A Canadian forces helicopter engaged in a NATO monitoring operation, with six people on board, has disappeared in international waters between Greece and Italy, a Greek military source revealed.
“Confirm that there was an accident involving a helicopter coming from a ship that was under NATO command”, said Colonel Juanita Chang, quoted in a communique of the Atlantic Alliance.
“Canadian Armed Forces (FAC) have explained that contact with helicopter, a CH-148 Cyclone, based on the board of a NSM frigate Frederictton, had lost while he participated in maneuvers with Allied members close to Greece” in a Facebook and Twitter message.
Parts of the missing Canadian helicopter engaged in a NATO operation were found at the Jon Sea between Greece and Italy, a Greek military source reported.
“The helicopter participants were found in the Italian control area and intervention in the Ionian Sea, and Greece sent a sea helicopter to participate in the rescue operation”, the same source stressed.
