The Transparency Democratic Institute has published Transparency and Accountability Index from the municipalities for 2019, where the municipality of Rahovec is ranked first in terms of municipal transparency for its citizens.
KDI has measured transparency in 38 Kosovo municipalities with the goal of reflecting municipal results as the first step towards raising the level of transparency.
During this research, KDI has monitored 34 municipalities, while the NGO target has conducted research in four northern Mitrovica municipalities -- Zvecan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok.
Caleb Waugh of the NGO Target said that the level of governance in relation to citizens is very important and that legislative activities have established good governance and shown a rise in the level of transparency.
He said that even though there are many challenges and problems, a positive improvement in the transparency and decision-making process has been made.
British Ambassador to Kosovo Nicholas Abbott said Kosovo citizens should know the importance of transparency in their municipalities.
Mihrie Rexhepi, Minister of Local Power, said the local level depends on local labour transparency, and the responsibility is to the mayors.
She said they have already signed the project to invest with funds of 3m euros to help citizens of municipalities in grants.
The first prize for higher municipal transparency in Kosovo was received by the municipality of Rahovec, the award for best municipal assembly, won the Malisheva municipality, while the award for the municipality with greater progress last year took over the Gracanica municipality.
