During the past week, the Kosovo Olympic Committee has declared “The Laureates of 2019”, where two of the best were undoubtedly proclaimed jungles by Peja, Majlinda Kelmendi and Akil Gjakova.
The following year, the two Judists brought other medals to Kosovo from the international arena, raising Kosovo's flag to the podium with other major world states.
In an interview for Kosovo Press, Majlinda Kelmendi spoke about this award, as well as showing her intentions for her future.
She said that despite winning many awards, her sense of joy is still the same.
I won many trophies during my career, a lot of medals, a lot of gratitude, but despite being honored at awards, it makes you feel good about the fact that maybe I'm working hard and when my job is rewarded, I think not only I am, but each person, enjoys”, Kelmendi first said.
As for preparations for the “Tokio 2020” Olympic Games, the queen of sports in Kosovo, said they are going well and expects the next month to begin the first race for this year.
The preparations in general are going very well, in 2020 I haven't had any competition yet, but I believe that in next month on Mars, I will start racing. But first the main goal is the Olympics, and there I hope for the best”, she said.
For the end, although Majlinda is known as a sportswoman who does not promise much, she pointed out that she will work hard to make Kosovo fans and citizens even more proud.
I'm not the kind of guy who gives a lot of promises. I just work and make them feel good, make them boast of me even with all of Kosovo, so I'm just promising I'll work, try to do my best and not disappoint them, and make them proud of me”, Kelmendi concluded.
Meanwhile, the best sportsman declared for 2019, Akil Gjakova for Kosova Prees, said that this award gives him the motivation to work even harder in his future, to achieve other successes in the international arena, and not even at Olympic Games.
“Of course it's a special feeling to be declared Kosovo's best athlete, in so great competition. I am very happy and feel very good about the fact that I am one of the best athletes in Kosovo”, he said initially.
On the other hand, Gjakova says that his primary goal is to return to the race after the injury on his arm last year.
The main point first is to get back to the race. From April, I started at Grand Prix in Anatalia. It's the first race to hurt it's gonna be a little harder for me but I think it's gonna be okay. The main goals for this year are the European Championship, and it's known to be the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games... the situation is very good, rehabilitation has gone faster than it is, from next week we're going to start training-camp in Czechia, we're going to go slower, but I hope everything will be okay”, he's got a point.
As far as the chance of blood-adorning myself with medals at the “Tokio 2020”, the Judist himself said that only God knows about it, however, in view of his good form we can hope to return to Tokyo with a medal.
That's why God knows. I hope that by being on my day, in the best shape and we'll see”, the Gjakova ended briefly.
We remember that right from the Judo sport, Kosovo continues to have the only gold medal won at Olympic Games when, in 2016, in Rio, Majlinda Kelmendi made the story by adorning himself with such a medal. /
