A restaurant in the town of Herndon, Virginia, looks like a typical place where families can go and enjoy the foods they want. But this restaurant serves more than delicious food, he is serving people with special needs.
A symbol on the doors of this restaurant shows that they are open to those who suffer from malaria.
All employees know how to deal with sufferers. Tony Reinhart started the project. For 18 years she has been running an agency that helped the elderly and the people with the deminities. But when the disease touched her father, she realized that many public spaces in the United States are not suitable for this category.
I was shocked to find out how difficult it was to get a person into the community who could be in the early stages of degeneracy. So I thought it would change reality because now that this is my family”, says Mrs. Reinhart, initiator of the “Freedly America” project.
According to a national study of health and aging, more than 70 percent of people with malaria stay at home.
This figure is the result of a lack of knowledge on how to treat these people in public places.
Mrs. Reinhart in co-operation with the organisation “The Friendsly America” launched a campaign in Virginia to teach those working in the service industry how to treat people with demarcy.
Sometimes I go to church and talk to people and they say: So this is what happened to my neighbor, he's got a problem. This is the main thing for people to understand what it's about”, she says.
Mrs. Reinhart and her colleagues decided to start working with restaurants. The kitchen was one of the first to decide to work with this organization.
We can't generalize this, but to be honest, we all have a family member or a friend affected by malaria, is becoming a part of life. So we're going to have to be all over us in every area of life -- ”, said restaurant owner “Vriginiia”, Lincoln Krueger.
Mrs. Reinhart advises employees to avoid arguing with people who are degenerated and to accompany any eye contact with a smile. She says that these people need to speak to you quietly and clearly because they need more time to process the information.
By the way, we Americans talk fast is our way of communicating. One thing we need to do is talk slowly and give a little bit of information each time. There may be 40 kinds of salads here, but you can suggest two”, she said.
Mrs. Reinhart's team consists mainly of women. But recently the makeup is changing, since men are also expressing willingness to help.
Raising awareness of the problem posed by deminities is necessary. According to predictions in 2030, the worldwide number of people will be 75 million.
Some studies say that physical activities reduce the likelihood of being affected by degeneracy, and Mrs. Reinhart's activity means dancing - something she does every day.
