US President Donald Trump and presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg accused each other of racism, which has led to the escalation of the fight of words between the two wealthy businessmen.
President Trump started first, posting a 2015 audio clip on Twitter, where Mr. Bloomberg is heard defending the use of a particular police tactic at the time he was mayor of New York City City City City Hall between 2002 and 2013.
The tactic known as “top and African” has to do with stopping a suspect without having any strong reason.
“U n OW, BLOOMBERG is a racist head-on! ” wrote President Trump on Twitter, a comment he later erased.
Even President Trump in the past has supported such a tactic.
Mr. Bloomberg, who is running for the appointment of the Democratic Party to challenge Republican Trump in the November 3rd elections, apologised for using this police technique last November, a few days before announcing candidacy.
In a statement Tuesday, Mr Bloomberg cited what he called his commitment to criminal justice and racial equality, adding: President Trump inherited a country that was marching towards greater equality and shared us with his racist appeals and hate rhetoric”.
Both personalities are billionaires. Donald Trump grew rich in the business of the non-combatable assets, while Michael Bloomberg gained billions selling financial information.
Mr. Bloomberg is not racing in the first four competitions among the Democrats, but is conducting a costly campaign across the country ahead of the party races in March. He's up in public opinion polls while spending hundreds of millions of dollars on television advertising. / VoA
