Putin made it clear that he would not allow the traditional notion of his mother and father to be replaced by what he called “welcome number 1” and “prind number 2”.
I've already spoken about this publicly and I'll repeat it again: as long as I'm president this won't happen. There will be fathers and mothers,” Putin said.
During his two decades in power, Putin has closely joined the Orthodox Church and has sought to distance Russia from liberal Western values, including attitudes towards homosexuality and gender fluency.
He made comments as he met with a state commission to discuss changes to Russia's constitution.
