The Podujevo municipality is expected to go to extraordinary elections. The reason for this is the election of mayor, Agim Veliu, minister of Internal Affairs.
Under the law, the moment he accepts the minister's position, Veliu must resign from the position of Podujevo chairman, and this town within 45 days holds new elections where the new chairman is elected.
Meanwhile, some parties in Podujevo have started preparations for extraordinary elections.
The Assemblykeeper, Bajram Ajeti from the Vetevendosje Movement, has told the news.net that they have started preparations but still do not have a candidate name.
“Vetevendosje in Podujevo has started preparations for extraordinary elections, but we still don't have candidate name”, Ajeti said.
Agim Behluli, the assembly from the Democratic League of Kosovo, has voiced confidence that this party will again lead with Podujevo.
“Election preparations have started immediately and I am convinced that LDK will firmly win back at Podujevo. We've got some names for candidates, but we can't make it public one time.
Democratic Party chief member in Podujevo, Fatmir Rudari, has said they have not yet had a meeting to discuss the issue.
We have not started preparations, nor have we met to discuss this issue. When we have a name, we're going to give you”.
Even in the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, they have not discussed extraordinary elections.
Mrika Thaqi from this party has said the AAK is in the process of domestic elections.
“Ende we have not discussed this issue we are in the process of the party's internal elections. We'll meet these days, we still have nothing concrete”, Thaqi stressed.
Agim Veliu, who today officially accepted the post of interior minister, led the Podujevo municipality since 2010.
