The fight against cancer is an open and long - term struggle for scientists. Recently some researchers in Israel are developing research to cure cancer, where according to research at the Faculty of Medicine “Sackler” of Tel Aviv University has also reached several conclusions.
They developed an experiment based on the use of drugs only on diseased tissue, using particles of light and gold that can be used to make cancer treatments more effective.
Researchers mainly aim at fighting head and neck cancer or those that touch mouth, nose, throat and are largely caused by the use of alcohol and tobacco.
A major problem in treating these tumors is their resistance to traditional radio therapy. About 40% of patients die, even after receiving aggressive treatment “, Aron Popovtzer, professor of oncology at Medical Faculty “told Israel's “Sackler”, who led the study.
The main purpose of the study is to develop a way to overcome this resistance by increasing the amount of radiation that can be absorbed by the tumor.
We knew from previous studies that gold helps increase the intensity of the radiation absorbed by tumors. But if you put gold particles in one person, he can go anywhere. The solution was for the gold to be stored directly on tumors”, Professor Popovtzer told “of Israel”.
Researchers then tried to connect small pieces of gold ʹ nanogrambes that can be bought commercially to a drug that is usually used to treat tumors, cethuximab.
While the drug targets tumors, reducing them, it also stores gold remains in the tumor. The test was initially carried out to mice as they came to positive conclusions, noting that the presence of gold in the tumor improves the effect of radiation and also no negative effect has been found on the use of gold in the liver or kidneys.
The team of researchers is now planning to use the good results won by human experimentation.
