Fatus Lala, who has lived in East London for 20 years, experienced the worst history of his life.
He's out of documents, no citizenship and no country.
While on vacation in Bulgaria, he has been stripped of British passports from the Interior Ministry. After returning from Bulgaria, he has been prevented from boarding a plane towards London because his passport is invalid. There's everything in London, home, acquaintances. He has lived in the British capital since he was 14. Because of this situation Fatush Lala has remained on the streets of Brussels, where she sleeps. In his help he has launched a fundraising campaign while Lala has written to a British deputy. The removal of the passport for Lala has occurred because the Interior Ministry has discovered that it is not from the country it claims but from Albania. In large measure, this phenomenon is happening mainly with Albanians who went to Great Britain saying they were from Kosovo but actually were from Albania.
Fatush Lala has been without citizenship for three weeks, without documents and no country. In a video posted by the British The Indies, he says he is living a real nightmare. I can't believe what happened to me. I'm on the street and it's freezing. I've been trying to find hot spots at train stations and cafes. I don't know what to do. I feel helpless. Where do I go?
The 33-year-old was in Bulgaria for a few days off and on January 20th he was to return but has been detained at the airport, while his wife has been allowed to travel. Lala had given the British Interior Ministry a wrong address of origin.
The documents he had submitted were said to have been born in 1986 in Serbia (Kosovo), but the British discovered that he was born in 1985 in Albania. He had gone to Great Britain, saying he had been separated from his family because of the war in Kosovo, yet he was educated and also attended university while he was able to obtain the British passport.
