A subway train in Spikensse, near Rotterdam, crashed into a barrier just before midnight yesterday (day).
But instead of falling 30 feet [10 m] down into the water, the train was dramatically caught in the air, reports the BBC.
He ended up delicately caught by a giant sculpture of a shark at the De Akkers train station.
“We're trying to decide how to put the train on the ground in a carefully controlled form,” said an official for the Dutch national NOS cable network today.
The driver, whose name has not been known, could leave the empty train himself. He was sent to the hospital for examination and is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.
The sculpture, titled “Shark Twins”, is the work of the architect and artist named Maarten Struijes, and was placed there in 2002.
Mr. Struijs told the NOS he was surprised the facility had not been broken. /Periscope
