The detainees are allowed to call their family, but their conversations can be recorded and heard by the chief of the detention facility in The Hague. Nevertheless, they are informed in advance that their conversation will be recorded.
Pre-prisoned in the facility of Specialised Rooms can perform two types of phone calls, protected and not protected.
Unprotected pre-prison calls can be monitored passively, meaning digital recording of phone calls without their immediate hearing.
According to the Administrative Office's Labour Guide concerning the detainees, the detainees are said to be informed of passive monitoring of their telephone conversations on unprotected lines.
Article 17 of this guide says that the chief of custody can listen to up to ten (10) of all telephone conversations recorded digitally every week, which are caseally selected.
The administrator may also decide that telephone conversations with an detainee will be heard, summed up, and transliterated. This could happen if the administrator sets necessary and proportional restrictions on visits and communications of a specific detainee.
