Haradinaj Stublla and Cakaj: Stop deliberate erasing of Albanian addresses in Presevo Valley

Kosovo diplomacy chief Melza Haradinaj-Subla and Albania's acting minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, have reacted to the process of deliberately wiping out Albanian addresses in the Valley by the authorities of Serbia, especially in Medvedja, but also Bujanoc and Presevo. Haradinaj- Staubla and Cakaj in a joint response [...]
Haradinaj- Staubla and Cakaj in a joint response have stated that the cancellation of Albanian addresses in the Presevo Valley is creating not only a completely incorrect mirror of the demographic composition of those spaces and the number of Albanians in Serbia, but is radically violating their fundamental rights and freedoms, including the right to vote.
This state practice, fully arbitrary and deliberately implemented, also constitutes a new form of oppression exercised against Albanians in the Presevo Valley. Therefore, while we strongly condemn this institutional practice, we call on the authorities of Serbia to immediately interrupt the systematic work for highlighting Albanian addresses. This state practice does not only harm the rights of Albanians in the Presevo Valley, but is also a complete disregard of democratic standards in general”, the statement said.
Haradinaj- Staubla and Cakaj appeal to all relevant international institutions, primarily the Council of Europe's Supreme Commissioner's Framework Convention Consultative Committee for Protection of Minorities The SEU for National Minorities, to forward this process with increased attention and to act on preventing this process of long-term consequences to Albanians living in Serbia.
Kosovo and Albania remain committed to deepening regional co-operation and deeply believe in the European future of the entire Western Balkans. However, it should be stressed that, first of all, this implies mutual recognition, equal treatment and full respect for democratic standards”, the statement concludes.
