Italy today recorded the highest number of new coronary cases since late April, in part due to increased testing
According to Health Ministry data, the number of infections increased by 2,548, the largest increase since late April, when there was a severe impasse in power throughout the country.
Authorities said that more than 118,000 people were tested in the last 24 hours - more than the average number, usually below 100,000.
After the summer season, Italy began recording an average of 1,500 cases a day, reaching a total of 317,409 infections throughout the country.
The country, which was the first in Europe to be involved in the virus, also reported 24 new deaths, bringing the total to 35.918, the TCh reports.
The region with the highest number of new infections is Venito, with 445 cases, followed by Campania and Lombardia.
After Italy began reporting higher numbers of new daily cases, some regions decided to tighten security regulations, including the obligation to wear facial masks, especially in cases where keeping physical distance is difficult.
The first region to bring such a move was South Campania, where Governor Vincenzo De Luca has also warned he will close business activities again if the number of cases continues to rise.
After the nationwide stalemate began to ease in May, schools opened again in mid-September after six months of closure.
