Yugo was a small car made in the former Yugoslavia but still survives today in American consciousness as the biggest failure in the world of automobiles.
In a constructive way, it was weak. In terms of design, it was ugly. But the price was free. She survived far more as a means of humor for comedians than a street vehicle.
The car was sold for $390. Even though it was a car created by the communists of Yugoslavia she found a market in America after an agreement between Tito and the American president. The merchants had customers lined up to buy one.
Yugo sold 1050 cars in a single day, but what goes up must come down. There were serious issues about quality. The car was slow and the technicians wrote it was the worst car ever sold in America.
The end came in 1992, when during the Yugoslav civil war, Yugo went bankrupt for the second time and the United Nations issued a trade deadlock for Serbia involving the parts of Yugo. / SCAN
