The rising price of cement for about 25 percent has disturbed concrete manufacturing businesses.

Business representatives voice their concerns and opposition to the moves and price changes that have a direct impact on their economic activity.

Based on business reactions, the Kosovo Afarism Oda (OAK) expresses support in business rights to their disputed concerns.

Naim Mahmutaj from OAK, at a media conference, said the price hike of 24.4 per cent is clear that “Sharcem” is using the dominant role in the market to arbitrarily raise cement prices.

This behavior keeps open the continued possibility of having abuse of the dominant position in the market this company now enjoys”, Mahmutaj said.

In this regard, the OAK has asked the Kosovo Competition Authority to take measures on these awards.

Mahmutaj said the price hikes took place without any initial warning. According to him, the rise is unaffordable for businesses and has a direct bearing on consumers.

Also present at this media conference were representatives of the construction sector, who stressed that the cost of the cement is unfair.
