Washington, Trump Administration, has imposed new sanctions on a senior Iranian general for his role in the brutal crackdown on antigovernmental protests. This is the latest step as part of maximum pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The State Department announced it imposed sanctions on Revolutionary Guard General Hassan Shahvarpour, who headed the massacre against 150 demonstrators in southwestern Iran in November.
The US special envoy for Iran, Brian Hook, said that “General Shahvarpour commanded the entities responsible for the violence and deadly depression in the area around Mahshahri”.
He said the decision was made after photographic and film records submitted by Iranians themselves were considered.
Mr. Hooke added that the State Department has received about 88 thousand information and such data since calling on Iranians to report the evidence of threats and serious human rights violations.
Iran has denied the United States' accusations of widespread depression, but has acknowledged having crashed with separatists in Mahshahr, who it said were armed.
