“FAO Food Price Index increased by 2.5 % on a monthly basis, on average, 181.7 points last month, due to a high demand for plant oil, sugar and milk markets, FAO said.
The figure for 2019, however, was 171.5 points on average, with an increase of 1.8 % from last year. The plant oil price index in December rose by 9.4 per cent from last month, marking a 25-month maximum.
The latest increase was mainly prompted by the introduction of palm oil prices, while the soybeans' oil values also increased, according to the FAO.
The centre grew by 4.8 % compared to the same period, prompted by rising crude oil prices, while dairy marked a monthly increase of 3.3 %s in December. The plants also marked increases of 1.4 percent, mainly from the international grain price increase, the Organisation said.
The FAO Food Awards Index is a heavy trade index that follows the prices of the international market of five main food groups. / A T S/
