France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has warned Iran may have nuclear weapons within a year or two if Tehran continues to breach the nuclear agreement with world powers.
The French chief diplomat made the statement ahead of an emergency meeting of the European Union foreign ministers, which is held due to mounting tensions between Iran and the United States.
Last week the United States has been killed by senior Iranian commander Qasem Solejmani, through an air strike in Baghdad.
The Kurdish forces led by Soleman are considered terrorists by the United States.
Later, Iran attacked military bases in Iraq with ballistic missiles, where American forces were sheltered.
Tehran announced that it will stop implementing restrictions provided with the nuclear agreement.
US President Donald Trump announced in 2018 that the United States was withdrawing from the agreement and would restore severe sanctions on Iran.
Iran insists its nuclear programme is only for civilian purposes.
US President Donald Trump has said the agreement was insufficient and should be renegotiated because it does not address Iran's ballistic missile programme or its involvement in regional conflicts.
At the same time, re-establishing US sanctions has caused a major damage to Iran's economy.
The EU has said it will not “while no attempt to keep the nuclear agreement alive despite escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Along with Iran, parties are Great Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, as well as the European Union.
