The investigation, led by Germany's special prosecutor, Peter Frank, has been investigating the diplomat's activities since he spent in the lobby company two years ago, along with two other employees of another firm, reports Der Spiegel, translates Periscopi.
The federal prosecutor's office spokesman confirmed the investigation under spying allegations, but denied to offer any additional details, saying there has been no arrests yet.
It is claimed that the two individuals in question had shared confidential commercial information with the Chinese ministry for state security.
Diplomat at the centre of the investigation reportedly worked both on the EU Commission and the European Foreign Action Service. [ Footnote] EAS].
