Acting Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj considered the opening of this border point between Kosovo and Northern Macedonia as a new cornerstone in friendship between the two countries.
According to him, this border point will be approached by people, but it will also have an economic impact.
This border point will close and speed up people's free movement. If someone from Gjilan had to travel 50 to 70 miles from today, he'd have a shortcut shorter... I think there will be benefits and economics since a border point will enable goods and capital to move, and this part of Kosovo will also have impact on its economic development. And recently there is also a good opportunity to show that Kosovo's relations with northern Macedonia are excellent”, Hoxhaj said.
Northern Macedonia's deputy prime minister, Bujar Osmani, the Stanqiq-Bellanoc border checkpoint, praised it as a new chapter that has opened between Kosovo and northern Macedonia. The delays in opening this border point Osman has reasoned with changes that should be made legally.
This is not just another border crossing is exclusive in many respects. It's the only object in the region that's found on two sides of the border and you have one room in Kosovo and one in northern Macedonia and that's created the greatest complexity because the laws see the whole functional object and they don't accept half the laws of laws, regulations changes, multiple coordinates, so this is a big day because of complexity. It is the first one between Macedonia and Kosovo, and we are opening a new chapter in this direction”, Osmani said.
Happy that now through the Stanqiq- Bellanoc border point, citizens who were numerous at this inauguration are more likely to circulate.
For the first time, this route is being crossed by Jevat Zymber, who was traveling from Slupqani, this village of Kumanovo, to Kosovo. According to him, the more such border points will be easier for citizens.
It's a lot of relief to us by 15 kilometers now we cross the border... The more they did us”, Zymber said.
At this point only people and small vehicles will be able to cross, and after just six months even heavy vehicles and goods.
The border point connecting Kosovo with northern Macedonia is funded by the EU, while its construction was under way in 2018.
