Australian authorities demanded another massive evacuation across the country's southeast, as high-frequency weather once again ignited major fires threatening several cities and communities.
State Prime Minister Victoria Daniel Andrews called on communities to be in a state of readiness before extreme conditions.
If you get instructions to leave, then you have to leave”, Andrews said at a television conference.
“This is the only way to guarantee your security”, he said.
According to information published by the federal government, up until now, 27 people have been killed by fires.
Fires have burned more than 10.3 million hectares of land, an area similar to the size of South Korea.
Thousands of people are homeless, and thousands of others have had to be evacuated because of the threat of fires.
Authorities have warned that major fires, driven by high temperatures, wind and a three-year drought, will continue until there is considerable rainfall.
The weather agency reported there was no indication that rainfall would occur this month. / REL
