President Rugova has died on January 21st 2006, which was buried with high state and military honours.
On the 14th anniversary of his death, he will be homazhe at his tomb in Velani and visit the Rugova family, while the LDK will hold the Memorial Academy at 12:00.
On the first anniversary of Ibrahim Rugova's death, former Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu decorated Rugova with the Kosovo Order “Hero, the highest title in our country given to the Albanian and Kosovo historical figures.
Dr. Ibrahim Rugova was born on December 2, 1944, in Cerrce in Istog. On January 10, 1945, Yugoslav communists shot down his father, Uka, and Grandpa Rhuste Rugova, who had been known fighters against the qualitants that were breaking into Kosovo during World War II.
Ibrahim Rugova was elected on December 23rd 1989, chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, the first political party in Kosovo to directly challenge the communist regime in the former Yugoslavia.
