United States President Donald Trump has issued an executive order, making it easier for the American administration to impose sanctions on suspected terrorists, funders and their supporters.
The executive “from President Trump adds further power to US counter terrorism efforts”, State Secretary Mike Pompeii said during a conference for journalists.
The order was issued on the 18th anniversary of the 11 September attacks on the United States.
Calling the command “the most important anti-terrorism update since September 2001”, Pompeii said the new regulations allow the State Department and Treasury Department to directly target leaders of suspected terrorist groups and their associates “without having to connect terrorist leaders to specific acts”.
Pompeo said the new rules are also more effective in targeting individuals and groups, participating in terrorist training, as well as allowing authorities to impose sanctions on financial institutions, which provide services for specific terrorists, is a guide.
Using this legal measure, the Treasury Department on September 10th imposed sanctions on leaders, individuals and subjects linked to groups such as Islamic State, Al-Qaeda, Pakistan's Tehrik and the Iranian Kurdish Forces, which are part of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC).
Since the terrible attacks on 11 September, the US government has focused its anti-terrorism efforts to steadily adapt to developing threats”, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said through a statement.
