At least five people lost their lives in the Bahamas as a result of the crossing of the devastating Dorian hurricane, said the country's prime minister, Hubert Minnis.
Speaking at a news conference, Minnis said 21 other people were injured and taken to the hospital in Nassau.
Five of the wounded were in serious condition.
He said his country was in the midst of a historical tragedy and that efforts to search and rescue were hampered by the storm.
