The International Association for Suicide Prevention as the initiative of this day, the World Health Organization and partners, calls for preventing suicide, providing adequate treatment, conveying suicides, and responsible reporting of suicides in the media.
In recent decades the tendency to commit suicide is on the rise. World Health Organisation experts warn suicide increases in the next 20 years.
The data shows that in the world, each year, suicides make nearly a million individuals, mainly men in the 1950s and 60s of life. Disturbing is the enormous increase in suicides and youth aged 15-20.
Scientists have proved that young people (up to 35) most often commit suicide, while older (50 and older) often commit suicide.
Much greater is attempted suicide than suicide.
Suicide is a growing phenomenon throughout the world. According to the World Health Organization, this phenomenon has increased by 60% worldwide over the past 45 years.
About 3,000 people commit suicide in one day worldwide, and for every suicide committed, about 20 others may attempt to end their lives.
